What Do You Mean???

So with writing a book blog comes using some terms that not everyone will be familiar with. Trust me, when I first started watching 'booktube' videos about "TBRs", "wrap ups" and "ARCs" I had zero clue what was going on and desperately needed some help. To make this easier for all of you I decided I would create a list, kind of like a glossary, of some of the terminology that may make navigating your way through the book world a little easier.

Booktube - this is the corner of YouTube dedicated to books and the people who love them. In booktube one will find many people doing a similar thing to what I am doing but in video form.

TBR - acronym for To Be Read. A list of books that you have to read, whether this be on your bookshelf, in the whole world or just what you have/want to read for the month.

Wrap-Up - a summary, in video or word form, of what you have read over the last month, or any time period.

Monthly Haul - the books you acquire in a month are referred to as a haul. In the book world, hauls are usually reviewed on a monthly basis.

Review - where a book, or book related topic, is discussed in a little more depth than the usual fleeting mention.

ARCs - acronym for Advanced Readers Copy (sometimes also referred to as Advanced Readers Edition). These are the books that are sent out to some readers before the release date for two main purposes. Firstly, to be reviewed by those that have a strong hold on literature. Secondly, to be promoted by those with a large following.

ISBN - acronym for International Standard Book Number. A number usually on the back cover of the book used to identify a book.

Blurb - the small amount of writing usually found on the back cover of a book that provides the reader with a brief summary or description of what the book will be about.

YA - stands for Young Adult, a genre of books aimed at teens and those slightly older.

Vlog - a video blog.

Read-a-thon - a reading marathon where in a set period of time you just read. Sometimes there is a theme that you have to read books to do with or sometimes it may just be a sprint where you have to read as many books as you can.

Hopefully this list cleared up a few things for some of you. If you have any other questions about terminology there are many members of the Book blog and vlog community that will also have some definitions that might help you
