What Do I Like Reading??

When it comes to what I read I am not overly fussy. I can usually see the good in every book unless it is truly terrible and unbelievably boring. I know that not everyone feels this way and because of this I am going to name a few of the things I really enjoy and love to read.

Firstly, I am a young adult and I live up to this by showing an appreciation to Young Adult (YA) fiction novels. From Fangirl to the Hunger Games, I love it all. The majority of my bookshelf is filled with YA literature and it the area of bookshops I am drawn to. My addiction to buying books also supports many YA authors such as Rainbow Rowell, JK Rowling, Stephanie Meyer, Cassandra Clare, Patrick Ness and so on. I can see myself sticking to these books for a while longer as I really enjoy them. Some people think that by the time you are 18 you are too old for YA literature...NOT TRUE!! These books can be just as challenging and grown up as everything else its just that the storylines are still fin, intriguing and interesting for this age category. I love YA!

Also, I have a strong liking for biographies and autobiographies. I think this started in the early years of high school when I had to read an autobiography and write a report on it. I read Ahn Do's 'The Happiest Refugee' and I could not put it down. I love how you can live this persons life through words on paper all binded together. Since then I have some fantastic biographies and autobiographies! To name a few: Jessica Watson's 'True Spirit', Kris Jenner's 'All Things Kardashian', Connie and Samuel Johnson's 'Love Your Sister', 'Kim Kardashian: The Official Biography'. The next autobiography on my shelf to read I am very excited about - 'I Am Malala' by Malala Yousafzai!

Adult fiction is not usually my strong point but I do often find myself with one of these books in hand. Though I am not reading some of the titles my Mum and Nana are reading, I do try and challenge myself with something a little harder and more intellectual every now and then. Jodi Picoult is one of my favourite adult authors and her 'My Sister's Keeper' was so fantastic it brought me to tears in the backseat of my parents car on the way home from a holiday in Melbourne...left a lasting and memorable impact as you can see. In the future, I can see myself starting to read a bit more from the adult fiction shelves as I try and mature.

By reading from a wide scope of books, I feel as though my appreciation for and love of literature is given the ability to expand further. Reading different types of book not only makes things interesting but it can academically enhance you to by aiding you reading, writing, interpreting and spelling abilities.

I hope I have inspired some of you to read something from a different area of the book world but if not just make sure you are loving what you're reading!

Nikki xx
